I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing Thanksgiving break.
With the break we had a pretty light schedule in the athletics department last week. The boys basketball team travelled to Orlando on Friday and Saturday to take part in the Florida Get Down. The boys dropped 2 tough games against tough competition from the Southeastern United States.
Both the girls and boys are back in action this week. Tuesday they will travel to Valdosta to take on Lowndes County, and then on Saturday they will head across town to take on Thomas County Central.
The 7th and 8th grade teams are back in action this week also with games on the road Tuesday and Wednesday.
This past Friday brought to an end an amazing football season for our Bulldogs. The Dogs fought until the end but came up short against Carver-Atlanta, losing 28-23. This brings to close a great 4 years by our seniors that saw them make the Elite 8 in the GHSA playoffs each year. Over their 4 years in the Red and Gold, the seniors won 39 games while losing 16, and finished with 3 Region Championships. I would like to give a big shout out to this group for the leadership they showed during some trying times and congratulate them on a job well done in representing everything the Diamond T stands for throughout their years on the football field.
A big thank you also goes out to the coaches, coaches families, and all the volunteers that make Friday nights in Veterans Memorial Stadium a special occasion. I would also like to thank the Cheerleaders, Band, Red Hots, Diamond Dawgs, and AFJROTC for their support throughout the season.
Also, the 8th grade basketball team plays at Pelham today in a game that was rescheduled from before the break.
Please make it a point to come out and support our teams during this winter sports season!
